News Flash-January 2014

Dear Clients,

The festive season came and went rather quickly and thankfully it appears that most of the intruders took a break over Christmas time.  January, on the other hand, kicked off with a bang and house-breakings and theft out, and of motor vehicles shot up again, specifically in Oranjezicht.

A few nice arrests were made in December and January. Two in particular.  On the 17th December 2013 at 01.45am, an alarm triggered at a premises in Hilton Road, Oranjezicht.  Two armed reaction vehicles arrived at the scene within minutes and were told that the suspect had managed to grab some electronic goods and had fled the scene.  Both vehicles had the description of the suspect and then commenced a search of the surrounding streets only to find the suspect still in possession of the stolen items.  All items were returned to our client.

On the 27th January 2014 at 08.51am, our control centre received a call from a client whose home had just been broken into in Glencoe Road East, Oranjezicht.  Access was gained through an open window after the intruders jumped over from a neighbour’s property.  The client spotted a male suspect who was stealing running shoes that were left outside.  She then grabbed a spade and proceeded to strike the intruder who was knocked down, but managed to flee the scene.  Immediately afterwards, a second suspect fled from inside the house without the client even being aware that there was a second intruder on her premises.  Thankfully this client was unharmed during this incident.

Incidentally this particular client pushed her panic button on noticing the suspect, however NO SIGNAL was received by our control centre.  Please be aware that a remote panic or fixed panic button should be held in for at least 2 – 3 seconds as this is a child proof feature.  A remote panic does not work the same as a TV remote which is instantaneous.  A remote panic button contains a small battery, even if this battery is close to being flat the red light will illuminate on the remote, but it may not be strong enough to send a signal to the receiver on the alarm panel, therefore it will not trigger. Remote panics should be tested regularly.  This can be done by contacting our control centre and advising them of your intent to test your panic button.  Our technical department will also be able to assist with this.

On the 28th January 2014 at 06.40am, CBAR control centre received a call from a client in Pinoak Road, Devils Peak who stated that his car had been broken into and that he was now following the suspect in the direction of De Waal Drive.  A vehicle was dispatched to render assistance and the suspect was apprehended. Interestingly, the suspect threw a large rock through the driver’s side window as a means of accessing the vehicle, the rock landed on the hand brake, disengaging it and the suspect then dived into the car as it had begun to roll down the hill. The vehicle then crashed causing the suspect to flee.  Thankfully this criminal was not a professional and his career in car break-in came to a grinding halt.

The City Bowl area is still being plagued by house breakers who are removing panes of glass to gain access to properties, thankfully many of our clients have now heeded the call to arm their alarm at night and ensure that certain internal zones are armed with infrared sensors as part of their “stay” (at home) mode.

City Bowl Armed Response (CBAR) is also extremely proud to announce that it celebrates its 15th birthday in February 2014.  For the past 15 years we have provided a 24hour service without interruption, which I personally think is highly commendable.  Special thanks to you, all our clients for entrusting us with your security requirements as well as to all the staff at CBAR who work tirelessly, around the clock to ensure that we, at any time, will respond to your alarm or calls for assistance.

CBAR would like to offer an incentive to all existing clients, a two months complimentary service, which will be credited to your account for the introduction of a friend or family member, with their consent, during our birthday month of February 2014.  This offer is based upon them signing a one year monitoring and armed response contract.  Please ensure that if you forward us details of an interested party or if they phone in personally, that you or they have included your full name and address so that it may be forwarded to our accounts department.

Wishing all our clients and neighbourhood watches a fantastic year in 2014.  Just as we have been for the past 15 years, CBAR is there for you 24 hours a day, only moments away.

Kind regards and best wishes

Alan Kusevitsky and the CBAR team
